In this communication we examine emergent patterns of use and appropriation of domestic space in children’s lives focusing on the re-utilization of daily tasks and home spaces for children’s leisure and socialization, and the role of information and communication technologies in children’s lives and social relations from home. Our findings illustrate the children’s active role in the appropriation of domestic space and suggest that discussions of children’s withdrawal from public space need to be reconsidered from an ecological-systemic perspective.
